Pleskavica is more than a material cultural product, a kind of symbolic perspective; an insight into the way we are used to making art today.
CONTEXT
In 2011, Ljubljana witnessed five festival programs since February, only one of which was not entirely dedicated to contemporary dance (Gibanica, Pajek, Plesna Vesna, Exodos, Balkanska plesna platforma). The Slovenian dance audience had the opportunity to get an impression of the domestic artistic achievements of the latest period and to see performances by choreographers and dancers from different artistic regions of (predominantly) European contemporary dance in various festival programs. It is rare that the offer of domestic and foreign dance performances in Slovenia is so extensive. The creators of Pleskavica welcome this.
DEFESTIVALIZATION = REFESTIVALIZATION
Given the circumstances, the creators of Pleskavica set themselves the task of trying to create a kind of programmatic difference with this year's edition of the festival, in relation to the current contemporary dance festival production in our country. We decided not to invite ready-made performances to our program, but to invite around 40 artists, theorists, dramaturgs and producers to Pleskavica, who will shape the festival program daily from June 9 to 19, based on various methodological proposals (modules) that we have prepared for them. We have titled our program "defestivalization = refestivalization", and with it we are trying to replace ready-made artistic products with artistic procedures and reflect on the concept of a festival and its possible formats.
