 The performance Imagine, which was the result of a collaboration between choreographers Alfirević and Srhoj and the Novi Sad dance collective Pokretnica, marked the culmination of their long-term developing artistic exchange. What began as an invitation to create a performance in Novi Sad and grew into a joint creative act. The performance explores the materiality and corporeality of imagining the (im)possible, the possibility of collective presence, drawing inspiration from the Novi Sad neo-avant-garde and the spirits of artistic ancestors. It draws on the past and its rediscovery and understanding, in search of the possibility that the future could one day be possible again. On stage, contemporary dance and choreography have become tools for the collective imagination of the unimaginable – resisting the predictable, embracing the open and uncertain. Five dancers, a musician and a protest choir take us through questions about dance, performance, the question of how to be together, how to cooperate, how to watch dance.

The play Imagine, a co-production of SKCNS (Novi Sad), Kina Šiška (Ljubljana), Praktikabla (Novi Sad) and Nomad Dance Academy (Ljubljana), was created within the Moving Balkans project, co-financed by the European Union. The play was also supported by the Provincial Secretariat for Education, Regulations, Administration and National Minorities, the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia and the project FUSION – Contemporary Forms of Art and Sociability, developed in cooperation with the French Institute in Serbia and the Teatroskop program, with financial support from the French Embassy in Serbia.
